SEDO, a small yet captivating donut and coffee cafe located in Kuantan, was designed to offer customers a cozy, compact space to enjoy their donut fix or coffee on the go. In this project, the focus was on creating an inviting yet functional space that enhances the experience of grabbing a quick treat or taking a short break. We introduced a Golden Glaze concept, which combines minimalist aesthetics with a hint of playfulness, creating an atmosphere that feels fresh, modern, and instantly memorable.

Concept & Inspiration
Our design vision for SEDO was inspired by the nature of the product—donuts. This playful circular shape influenced the use of curves throughout the space, from the furniture to the cafe’s layout. By integrating natural elements and thoughtful architectural details, we created a balance between functionality and aesthetics, emphasizing comfort and visual appeal. The goal was to create a unique, photogenic experience that made the cafe stand out within Kuantan’s food and beverage scene.

Design Highlights
Innovative Facade with Natural Touches
SEDO’s facade is both eye-catching and functional. Potted plants were strategically placed to bring in elements of nature, softening the urban feel and creating an inviting entrance. A concrete slab was installed to serve a dual purpose—as a bench for customers waiting or enjoying their donuts and as a photogenic feature where customers can capture memorable photos with the cafe in the background. This novel facade helps SEDO establish a recognizable identity and attract attention from passersby.
Slanted Entrance Design
The walls flanking the entrance doorway were intentionally designed to be slanted. This subtle architectural choice enhances the experience of entering the cafe, creating a sense of welcome and smooth transition from the outside. It gives customers an immediate sense of intimacy upon entering, making the small space feel more accessible and thoughtfully crafted.
Curved Interior Elements Reflecting Donuts
Inside, the design mirrors the donut theme through curves and rounded shapes in the furniture. The long wooden bench, for example, not only maximizes seating capacity but also echoes the round, playful form of donuts. The modular round tables can be rearranged easily to accommodate larger groups, allowing flexibility within the limited space. The counter was crafted with rounded edges, a conscious decision to improve safety, particularly for young children, enhancing SEDO’s family-friendly appeal.
Optimized Foot Traffic Flow
The layout was carefully planned to create a smooth flow from entrance to counter. The donut display is positioned close to the door, drawing customers’ attention immediately upon entering and improving the efficiency of foot traffic. This arrangement allows customers to quickly make their selections while those waiting for their orders can comfortably sit on the bench, keeping the space uncluttered.

Challenges & Solutions
In such a compact space, our primary challenge was to maintain a sense of openness while accommodating seating, display, and functional elements. By utilizing multi-functional design pieces, like the bench that serves both as seating and as a visual anchor for the interior, we maximized utility without overcrowding the space. The curved design elements softened the overall look, creating a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring every square foot contributed to the cafe’s usability.
SEDO’s unique design and thoughtful layout distinguish it from other cafes in the area, capturing attention with its playful, donut-inspired aesthetic and functional use of space. It has become a popular spot not only for a quick coffee and donut but also as a destination for social media photos, thanks to its photogenic facade and cozy, welcoming ambiance. This compact, carefully curated space serves as an example of how small-scale cafes can stand out through smart design choices and attention to detail.
