In this project, our task was to design and build a ladies’ washroom with an absolution section for a mosque. Mosque washrooms often face specific issues due to high humidity, restricted natural light, and suboptimal air circulation. These factors typically make the spaces prone to dampness, lingering odors, and an overall unwelcoming environment.
Project Overview
In this project, our task was to design and build a ladies’ washroom with an absolution section for a mosque. Mosque washrooms often face specific issues due to high humidity, restricted natural light, and suboptimal air circulation. These factors typically make the spaces prone to dampness, lingering odors, and an overall unwelcoming environment.
Our aim was to overcome these challenges by introducing a design that balances functionality, aesthetics, and comfort, elevating the washroom to a space that complements the mosque’s essence.

Design Challenges and Solutions
Humidity & Air Circulation
A lack of ventilation is a major issue in most washroom spaces. Our solution was to integrate an open concept for this washroom, adding multiple openings for improved air circulation and natural lighting. These design features significantly reduce humidity levels, creating a fresher and more pleasant atmosphere.
Natural Lighting
To address the lack of natural light, we positioned openings strategically. This not only brings in daylight but also lends a sense of openness that enhances the washroom’s ambiance. As a result, the space feels brighter and more welcoming, in contrast to the typical dark and damp washroom environment.

Traffic Flow & Security
We designed high, layered walls to ensure that security is maintained without compromising the openness. The layered wall layout is also effective in optimizing the traffic flow, providing clear pathways while offering privacy to users.
Entrance Experience
To create a seamless experience from entrance to usage, we placed a bench near the entrance area. This serves as a waiting or resting spot, adding a thoughtful touch to the user experience.

Foliage Integration
Often overlooked in washroom design, greenery around and within the washroom plays an essential role in creating a calming environment. We included a selection of green foliage around the washroom structure, adding a refreshing element that enhances the natural feel of the space.

The client expressed high satisfaction with the final outcome, even humorously noting that the washroom has become one of the mosque’s most beautiful structures. This comment speaks volumes about the transformation achieved, especially given the age of the mosque itself.
